6:44:59!
I actually did it! I ran a marathon!
I can't thank you enough for all the support I have received from all of you! I know that I couldn't have done it without all the donations, positive attitudes, encouragements, and motivational talks from everyone involved. It's been a long 6 months, it has paid off, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
As I arrived in Hawaii 3 days before the run, I was nervous and anxious as hell, and I just wanted the marathon to start already! Being on the 32nd floor of the Waikiki Hyatt with an unbelievable view, was just what I needed to clear my head and calm down. As I woke up at 2am Sunday morning to get to the shuttle at 3am (to take us to the starting line), I realized that there was no turning back and I was actually going to do this. The nearly 20,000 of us who showed up that morning to run was greeted with a spectacular fireworks display to kick off the 29th annual Honolulu marathon at 5am.
Running in the middle of the streets of Honolulu in the darkness with all those people was a strange and yet exhilarating feeling. But I knew why I was there. I was running on behalf of people who are dying of AIDS, I was running on behalf of the victims in the September 11 attacks, I was running on behalf of my Dad who has been battling cancer, I was running on behalf of everyone who supported me in the last 6 months, and I was also running for myself. To push myself further than I ever thought I could, to see if I actually have what it takes to do what a small percentage of the world can only do.
Of course, if I didn't have bad luck - I'd have no luck at all, so I ran into a couple of problems out there on the course! At about mile 12 or 13, my feet became incredibly sore, blistered, and tired. They usually didn't do that until mile 18 or so, but I had to deal with it this time so early, in my longest attempted run. However, mile 21 is when the disaster hit, I could no longer feel my left leg. The only way that I can describe it, was that it felt like there was a water balloon sloshing around inside my left thigh, I had no control over it and it was scary. All my months of training for this run, even the 10 + years of training in football when I was younger, I never experienced anything like this. It was a very difficult thing for me to tell my running group, who I've trained with these last 6 months, that I could no longer run and to go on without me. Seeing them run further and further away from me as I was walking, broke my heart. It was very emotional for me and I was also angry at my body. I continued on walking as fast as I could, and as I was walking up and over Diamond Head toward the finish line, the feeling in my leg came back. I got to run in the last mile and cross over the finish line, where my group was waiting for me. Running that last mile toward the finish line with thousands of people on both sides of the street cheering, was an incredible feeling, a feeling that I will never forget. I came in 14,886th place out of 19,217 runners who finished, with a total time of 6:44:59. I guess that's not too bad for someone who's never run a marathon before.
Once again, I thank you so much for all your support, I couldn't have done it without you!
Sincerely,
Kenny
Update: October 2001:
Fundraising goal accomplished!
I am very happy to announce that I have reached my goal of raising over $3,000 in donations for the AIDS Marathon in Honolulu that I am training for. I want to thank each and every one of you for your support - you have made a difference in the fight against AIDS with your donation.
I can't tell you how proud I am to have friends and supporters like you who fully believe in me to run this marathon. Reaching this goal is one of the greatest feelings I've ever had - knowing that I've raised money for thousands of sick and dying people from this deadly disease, whom I've never even met before, really is an incredible feeling - and I have people like yourself to thank for because of all your support. Thank you so much.
As far as the training goes, I can also tell you that it's been no picinic! Running 3 times a week and sacrificing every Friday night to get up at 6am on Saturday mornings to go running for the last 5 months, has been very difficult, yet it has been awesome. I look forward every week to running with my group, who by the way, are some of the nicest people I've ever met in my life, and there is no way I could be doing this without them.
Thank you all again for your support and keep it here for the latest news!
Six weeks to go until the marathon........ Kenny

Update: May 2001:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
KENNY IS GOING TO RUN A MARATHON?.........
Sounds unbelievable doesn't it? Yet, It's true! I'll be running in the 29th annual Honolulu Marathon on December 9, 2001. Although I am right in the middle of recording my 3rd cd as a solo artist, I have decided to put my music career on hold for the first time and join a 6 month training program to prep for this colossal run. As you know, I have been chasing my dream of becoming a full time recording artist (ok, a rockstar!) at full throttle for many years now, so I have decided that for the next 6 months I will be putting all my focus and energy into making a difference for a great cause. It's all part of the National AIDS Marathon Training Program which raises money for AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA), the leading provider of AIDS services in Southern California.
During this 6 month training program, I am running a little further each week, starting at 3 miles and building all the way to 26.2 miles! As you are also aware of, I live a "Rock 'n' Roll" lifestyle (to say the least!), so by taking on this feat will be one of the biggest and hardest challenges of my life. I have also made a commitment to raise at least $3,000 before September 5th for APLA. This is where you come in - I'm asking for your support. Any donation you can make to help me meet my goal would be greatly appreciated! Remember that no amount is too small (or too large for that matter), and any amount will be helping me achieve this goal and you can bet that you are also making a difference in the fight against AIDS. I invite you to visit the Training Program's Web site at AIDS Marathon to make your contribution securely online. (enter: Kenny Texeira 0748)
Despite recent advances in treatment of HIV/AIDS, the epidemic is far from over. In fact, the fastest growing new infection population includes women, people of color and our youth, age 13 to 24. More than 40,000 Americans are infected with HIV every year. Last year over 2.5 million people in the world died of AIDS - that's very scary. Worldwide approximately 36 million adults and children are currently living with HIV/AIDS. Your donation will allow APLA to continue providing food, housing, and other vital AIDS services to more than 8,000 men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS. Our goal is to help keep people alive until there's a cure.
Believe me, I never thought that I would actually be running a marathon and you're probably surprised by this too, but rest assured, this is one of the most important things in my life right now and my determination and desire is stronger than ever. I thank you in advance for your support and encouragement in this big undertaking. I will be keeping you updated throughout the summer, and when I hit the road on December 9th to complete the Honolulu marathon, just know that you've helped me achieve it with your support!
Sincerely,
Kenny

Some songtitles include: "15 Minutes of Fame", "Misbehaving in Transylvania" and "Groom Lake". From the sounds of the demo's, Tex has a much raunchier gutsy guitar sound and a much more aggressive attack to the music than his previous CD "Rock 'n' Roll or Bust". In other news, Kenny has also been very busy working on some film soundtracks, being a hired gun for other studio projects, and playing live performances with other acts.
